Warning Signs Your Water Heater Is Failing

Do you know how old your water heater is? When was the last time you flushed your tanked water heater? When was the last time that you did a visual inspection around your water heater? Most homeowners turn on their hot water faucet without a second thought. But are you sure that you will get hot water the next time that you turn it on? Here are some warning signs that your water heater is failing:broken water heater

  • Lack of Hot Water: Your water is only lukewarm or it doesn’t last as long as it used to.
    • A standard 40 to 50 gallon tanked unit should be able to supply 2-3 showers continuously.
  • Unusual Noises: Sediment that has built up over time gets stirred up and makes these noises. It is highly recommended that you flush your tanked water heater annually. If you haven’t done so this is the reason why you are hearing strange noises.
  • Rusty or Murky Water: Rusty water usually indicates corrosion inside your tanked water heater. A metallic or unusual smell coming from your hot water indicates a failing tanked water heater. Contact 1-800-anytyme to determine if it’s your pipes or water heater that is causing the rusty water.
  • Leaking: If water is leaking out of your water heater and you have determined that it is not coming from the tank’s connections, fittings or the pressure overflow pipe, call 1-800-anytyme immediately.
  • Age: Most tanked water heaters will last 10-15 years.
    • A tanked water heater older than 10 years should be considered for replacement. If you wait until it leaks you could risk damage to property and items around the unit.
