HVAC Maintenance Guide for the Busy Homeowner

Wake up, get the kids to school, work, eat, sleep…wake up, get the kids to school, work, eat, sleep…and repeat…

With all of the conveniences of modern life, we still find ourselves stretched thin and constantly running out of time. Where does that leave your HVAC maintenance? Probably at the bottom of your to-do list! Unless you have a Wi-Fi thermostat that alerts you (and can even alert us!) if it detects a fault, you could be facing a potential system failure at the least convenient time.

Things You Can Do YourselfSan Diego HVAC Unit

  • Change the filters regularly: One of the most important steps in system maintenance, air filters should be changed every three months at a minimum to maintain a unit’s peak efficiency. During high usage months in the winter or summer, check your air filters at least once a month and change them as needed in order to keep your system clean and to keep air flowing freely.
  • Perform a visual inspection: Check for warning signs such as frozen coils, water leaks, and dirty evaporator or condenser coils. These could require an HVAC contractor’s help.
  • Don’t overwork the system: Turning your air conditioning up a few degrees and making sure that vents aren’t blocked can help decrease the workload on your HVAC unit.

Even in Southern California, a broken furnace can make hanging out at home or work a misery. A broken air conditioning unit can be just as miserable during a heat wave.
