Why Is My Air Conditioner Leaking?
The last thing you want to see in the middle of a San Diego summer is a leaking air conditioner.
Why does this happen?
- Condensation: One possible reason is a broken condensate pump or power isn’t getting to the pump. A clogged condensate drain line will also cause water leaks. These lines can become clogged with dirt and debris throughout the course of the summer.
- Air Filter: A dirty A/C air filter blocks airflow over the evaporator coil which causes the coil to freeze over. When it melts is will drip an amount of water too large for the pan to handle.
- Drain Pan: Drain pans can develop rust and cracks over time. If you have an older unit, check the pan to see if it is the source of the leak.
- Ductwork: Improperly insulated ductwork can cause condensation and result in leaking water.
